I am starting a blog. I can't believe it. I don't particularly like to write. I hate to edit. Pictures are my mode of communication...
But, I do feel like I have things to say, especially about art. I have been teaching art for 11 years in the Indiana public schools, mostly at the Junior High level. I make my own work nearly every day. Before I became a mother, everyone said all of that would stop, but instead I just make more. I squeeze it in during my prep at school, or work along side my students, or after bedtime. I find a way. I know what papers I like and what products I like. I know how to communicate clearly to students (at least I like to think so). I know how frustrating it is to have a million things going on at once, and still try to find time to make, and to think, and to research. I am learning how to be a good designer and how to make art that fulfills me and hopefully speaks to others. I am learning how to be an artist mother. I am finding that there are a lot of beautiful and awful things around me, and my art helps me to make sense of both. I don't know why I am starting a blog, but I do know I have things to say. So, stay tuned here for some product assessment, and some tutorials, and some art teaching material, and some of my own work struggles, and some artist/mom stuff, and for some inspirational stuff, and for some opinions you may care nothing about (you can just scoot right on by those.) This is a learning process, and I invite you to come along.
